Title: Advocacy April: From Awareness to Action
Date: Tuesday, March 17, 2026
Description: Join NYACCE for a one-hour Advocacy Lunch & Learn designed to prepare adult education programs across New York State for meaningful, coordinated action during Advocacy April. This interactive virtual training will demystify advocacy, clarify what engagement looks like at every level, and provide practical tools to elevate adult learner voices in policy conversations.
Participants will explore how to move from awareness to activation, learn how to safely and effectively center student stories, and leave with a clear action plan for April. Whether you are new to advocacy or looking to deepen your impact, this session will help you turn your program’s daily success stories into powerful influence at the state level.

Title: NEDP: Pathway to a New York High School Equivalency Diploma
Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Description: The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is one the four approved NYSED pathways for adult education agencies and training providers to the New York High School Equivalency Diploma. NEDP is a web-based standardized performance assessment system that allows adults and out-of-school youth to demonstrate their high school level skills in a series of simulations that parallel life and work activities. The performance tasks align with the College and Career Readiness Standards for high school exit level and preparation for success in college and careers.
Participants are evaluated against a criterion of excellence instead of by comparison to others, take responsibility for their own learning by using existing resources, and achieve mastery of all required competencies.
NEDP is presently offered in sixteen locations in New York, along with a statewide Hub, ensuring that all eligible New York residents have access to this highly effective program. Data demonstrates a high degree of participant persistence, graduation, and continuation on to higher education.
Presenters: Margaret Kirkpatrick, NEDP Director and Janita McNemar NEDP National Training Specialist
