Generational Differences: Improving Communication Are there students or staff members who seem to bother you more than others? Are they more difficult to work with? Does your work ethic differ from yours? Are these barriers to communication? Maybe it’s a generational difference. Come find out! Culture, Culture Everywhere: How Does It Impact What You Do In ESOL? (PART II) With the incredible wide range of cultures present in our adult ESOL classrooms, it is important to understand more about how culture impacts learners’ involvement in the classroom and our ability to reach and teach them. Participants will discuss the topic and their learners. Handouts with resources will be included. ABE Reading Instruction (PART II) The emerging principals and trends explicated in researched-based principles of adult basic education reading instruction will be discuss in this overview workshop. Teaching adults to read addresses each component of reading (alphabetic, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) from the teacher’s perspective, defining each term, highlighting its importance, describing how it is assessed, and exploring its implications for teachers. Barriers & Fears to Learning and Teaching What are the barriers and fears that learners (and teachers) bring into the classroom? Workshop participants will gain a better understanding of the key barriers/fears both they and their students may encounter. An understanding of these factors can lead to a better course design and appropriate use of teaching strategies. Capturing iPods and the MP3 Craze for Learning: Helping Students Tell their Stories Through Technology – Session for Educators, Students, iPod-Curious, and Podcast Listeners (PART II – Con’t.) Take it to the next level! Learn, design, plan, and record podcasts which use iPods, MP3s, and online information to motivate and enhance learning. From student projects to teacher created materials and professional development, discover your voice and empower your learners! One CD of recourses will be raffled off at this session. Presenting Yourself for Success The better you feel about yourself, the more opportunities you will attract in today’s competitive market. This presentation focuses on how your students can be prepared to sell themselves in a positive manner to gain workforce marketability. |
