Games and Activites for the Life Skills/Job Readiness Classroom

We all know students learn best by doing. Come to this workshop to participate in activities and games that you can then “steal” for your own classroom. Activities will focus on curriculum developed for a life skill/job preparedness program but can be utilized in any learning environment. Hope you can come and play.

Community Education: Issues and Concerns

Many community education programs share the same issue and concerns. How much to pay instructors? What is a good refund policy? Should I take on-line registrations? You many have the answer to one these questions and the person sitting next to you may have the answer to yours! Join community education programmers and administrators to discuss these questions and many more. Head back to your organization with all the answers. Bring copies of policies and procedures that you’d like to share and discuss.

Culture, Culture Everywhere: How Does It Impact What You Do In ESOL?

With the incredible wide range of cultures present in our adult ESOL classrooms, it is important to understand more about how culture impacts learners’ involvement in the classroom and our ability to reach and teach them. ABE Reading Instruction

The emerging principals and trends explicated in researched-based principles of adult basic education reading instruction will be discuss in this overview workshop. Teaching adults to read addresses each component of reading (alphabetic, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) from the teacher’s perspective, defining each term, highlighting its importance, describing how it is assessed, and exploring its implications for teachers. An Orientation: Strategies for Success in Adult Learning

Strategies for Success in Adult Learning (SFS) was created using the framework under the direction of the Design Institute and can be found in the NYSED published Guidance Document for Health Education. SFS is an orientation program addressing the adult education ELA standards with the goals of improving student retention, improving academic performance, and improving post-test rates of program participants. SFS is a writing and reading intensive, skills-based, learning experience which prepares learners to enter into an adult education program.
